The O2 Curve: A More Cost Effective Solution

The O2 Curve is a uniquely designed respirator that was created with the intention of helping individuals breathe clean air. Initially designed with air pollution in mind, the respirator has now become a more general use item worldwide, as a result of increased requirements for face coverings in public and work spaces.

The O2 Curve is a reusable compact elastomeric respirator. More plainly, this means it is designed for repeat use, maintaining a tight seal to the user’s face, filtering out particulate in the air. The filters are replaceable and very cost effective. For a general use case like sitting in an office, walking the dog, or running errands, the filters will typically last up to 2 weeks before needing to be replaced.

In more specific workplaces, it may be suggested to replace the filter more regularly. In these environments, the cost of ownership of an O2 Curve is significantly lower than most disposable respirators (often referred to as an N95 mask).

Cost of Ownership Comparison

It is important to understand that an N95 mask is an all-in-one respirator while the O2 Curve has two components. The O2 Curve has both the original respirator that can be reused indefinitely, and a disposable filter.

Let’s compare the O2 Curve to an N95, taking into consideration the following criteria:

  • The N95 is priced at $2.50 USD per mask
  • In a healthcare setting, a new N95 is being used 3 times/day
  • In a construction setting, a new N95 is being used 1 time/day
  • The O2 Curve is priced at $50 USD (respirator pricing for frontline workers)
  • The O2 filter is being replaced 1 time/day at $1.50 USD

The graph above demonstrates that after 90 days of use, there is a glaring cost discrepancy between wearing an N95 versus wearing an O2 Curve, especially in a healthcare setting. In fact, these significant savings are even noticeable after just a few days.

Depending on usage and quantity, the N95 option can become extremely expensive very quickly. The O2 Curve on the other hand, quickly pays for itself. The costs associated with refilling the filter supply for the O2 Curve are far less expensive over time than the costs associated with purchasing and wearing a new N95 once or multiple times a day.

Therefore, the O2 Curve continues to prove to be the more cost-effective (and environmentally friendly) option, in a variety of different circumstances, and is certainly a worthwhile investment.
